The Human Side of Agentic AI
Bill Coombes · · AgentCon Miami

On June 12, 2026, I spoke at AgentCon Miami about the part of agentic AI that determines whether a promising system becomes useful work: the human side. The session focused on how leaders can earn trust, give people practical ways to learn, and create the visible wins that turn cautious users into internal advocates. For small and midsize businesses, the message was direct: begin with a costly or time-consuming problem, prove value in one workflow, and scale only after people can see the difference.
Three takeaways for business leaders
- Start with business pain. Look first at time, capacity, and cost pressure, then identify the work people know how to do but cannot consistently make time for.
- Tailor the support. Executives need ROI and risk clarity. Managers need usable guidance. Early adopters need room to experiment and share what works.
- Build trust through evidence. Small, visible results give people a reason to use the system again and give leaders a defensible basis for the next decision.
Why the human side matters
Agentic systems ask people to hand over more than a single task. That makes trust, role clarity, and leadership behavior part of the operating model—not a communications exercise after the technology is built. Adoption moves faster when those decisions are made at the start.
What this means for an SMB
You do not need an enterprise-scale AI program to apply the same discipline. Choose one recurring point of friction, agree how you will judge the result, involve the people who do the work, and use what you learn before expanding to another workflow.
